A 64-year-old mother and her 43-year-old son were allegedly caught having sexual relations by his wife. They could be in prison for 20 years
The United States pair are facing the possibility of 20 years behind bars if they are found guilty on incest charges.
The son reportedly said the May 20 encounter was the first time he had ever had sex with his mum.
“I don’t know. It just happened,” an police officer reported Tony L Lavoie, from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, of saying as he was questioned about the May 20 incident.
Lavoie was living with his mum Cheryl Lavoie at the same house at the time.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance the house and greeted by the wife’s cousin, according to local newspaper.
The cousin reportedly told an officer that Lavoie’s wife had called her about walking in on her husband having sex with his mum, and then had phoned 911.
The officer spoke to the mum and son separately and both acknowledged they had consensual sexual relations and said it was the first time it had happened, police said.
When the police officer asked Lavoie asked why it had happened, he is said to have responded “I don’t know. It just happened,” before asking for treatment.
When the officer asked his mother the same question, she is said to have responded that they had gotten closer in recent months and it had happened after they started kissing
Cheryl (pictured) and her son confessed to having sexual relations with each other in their home on Clarendon Street, Fitchburg, back on May 20, according to authorities. Cheryl reportedly said they had grown closer in recent months and started having sex when they began kissing
Police reportedly charged the mother and son with felony incest and issued them a summons to appear in court on August 20.
Both were arraigned last week and released on personal recognisance and ordered by the judge to stay away from one another, according to court documents reported by local press.
They both pleaded not guilty, court documents said.
The Lavoies will return to court in October for a pretrial hearing.
According to state law, a person convicted of incest can be punished by imprisonment for between two-and-a-half to 20 years.
